Tree King can remove any stump, any size and in any location Auckland wide.

WHAT IS STUMP GRINDING & REMOVAL?

When a tree is removed you will be left with the stump still slightly above ground level. With our specialised stump grinding equipment we grind the stump and surface roots below ground level.  A standard grind of 100mm below ground is plenty for grassing an area or you can request complete removal of stump and surface roots.  Complete removal can be necessary when replanting in the same area or when building on a site.

STUMP GRINDING FAQ’S

Can I plant in the same spot?

Yes it is possible. Sometimes the stump may need to be ground down deeper than usual, which may affect the price. Please tell us your requirements when requesting a quote.

How much will it cost?

Prices for stump grinding start at $200+GST. Our charge schedule is based on the size and type of stump to be removed, difficulty, accessibility, surroundings, terrain, soil rock content and other factors.

I heard its cheaper to dig the stump out. Is this true?

This is not true. Even the smallest of stumps are harder than they look to dig out, even with a large excavator. If you do manage to dig it out you are left with a large root plate that will need to be taken to landfill. Cartage and dumping fees can be expensive.

How deep do you grind?

100mm below ground is industry standard, which is fine for re-seeding lawn etc. We can grind down as far as 500mm. Please let us know when requesting a quote if a deeper grind is required.

There may be underground services located close to the stump. What do I do?

We recommend calling a service locator to mark underground services, if you have a feeling they may be compromised. The cost is approximately $180 + GST.  We will advise if this is necessary at the quoting stage.

I have a stump that is hard to get to. Can it still be done?

Of course! Tree King can grind any stump, anywhere! We are experts in tight access stump removal.

Do you need to visit for a quote or can I send a photo?

We recommend sending a photo with your enquiry. We can often give you an accurate estimate for the stump removal. If needed, one of our quote managers will complete a site visit and can generally complete the work right there and then if you’re happy with the price.

Can you remove bamboo roots with a stump grinder?
Our stump grinders are ideally suited for bamboo root removal. Read more on bamboo removal.
What happens to the grindings?

Small stumps can have the grindings back-filled into the hole. Excess grindings can be tossed in and around gardens as mulch. We can remove them from the site if required, for an additional fee. Please let us know when requesting a quote.

Luke, and his team are amazing, coming and removing two trees from my property and then grinding the stumps. I was really impressed. Great people to engage with, the lead of the team that came was brilliant checking with me what I needed and generally just making sure everything was done really well.
